At this juncture in your life I would like you to consider two quotes:
‘Design correctly harnessed can enhance life, create jobs and make people happy – not such a bad thing.’
Sir Christopher Frayling (born 1946), British educationalist and writer, known for his study of popular culture.
And
‘There is no wealth but life.’
John Ruskin (1819 –1900) English art critic, social thinker, poet and artist. His essays on art and architecture were extremely influential in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Both these statements carry a profound reality. That there is nothing of greater value than life, which means your life is vital to the welfare of the planet’s wellbeing. You are important, and your contribution to the bigger picture starts with your education – nothing being more important in the bigger picture than design. As Frayling states, ‘correctly harnessed’, design ‘can enhance life’, although I would push that idea further to ‘does enhance life’.
At SSD we are encouraged by the idea that vibrant learning environments lead to great things.
